The speeding on Central Avenue between Broadway and High Street is out of control. It is so commonplace now to see drivers at speeds well over 25 miles per hour. We need traffic cams that result in speeding tickets. We need a way to deter drivers from speeding and making extremely dangerous maneuvers. Just this last week a driver 2 cars behind me on Central at High St. came up on my right and made a left turn in front of me and the light was red. Another time we were nearly hit when exiting our driveway as a car wanting to pass another suddenly swung into the oncoming traffic lane where we were about to exit our driveway. On Gibbons Drive I witnessed a driver not stop at the Stop sign but just barrel through to make a right turn onto Santa Clara. I have so many more incidents to provide you. We need a strong deterrent to prevent accidents and calm the streets especially Central Avenue between Broadway and High St. It has become a raceway.

Children cross this street going to the schools in the area. We need speed bumps or a stop stop sign halfway between. Thank you.

Thank you for reporting your concerns about street safety in Alameda. This stretch of Central is tentatively slated for the 2024 pavement resurfacing and safety improvements project, which would include striping updates for safety. We will provide your report to project managers.
Your report will help inform the City of Alameda’s work to achieve our Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic fatalities and severe injuries. Staff will retain your report and refer to it the next time we undertake a project on this street, whether it is pavement resurfacing or a corridor update.
