Address painting scam?

The homes on our street all received a fluorescent flier soliciting donations in exchange for paining address numbers on the curb. Beside the solicitor taping trash to my garage (it looked like my home had been quarantined after a disaster), they request donations within 24 hours (by 8 am tomorrow) and the flier leaves no address or phone number and only the initials R.B.F.D Painting. The manner in which these fliers were posted would be an ideal way to scam homeowners out of money because they left absolutely no way to verify who they are or validate that they are a company approved by the City for providing such services. They could literally post fliers one day, collect money the next morning and split.

I don't know if you live in a No Soliciting community or have an HOA with no soliciting posted but if so that might be a start. Also from what I see you can just throw it away. If someone wants the service they would complete the form, and place it back out in view of the street. It appears the money is not collected until after the customer is satisfied with the work. I'm with you about posting of a flyer to my home...I would not be happy.

Yesterday, I was thinking that my numbers on the curb need to be repainted. I hope these guys come to my neighborhood lol

We just got this. We filled out the form and left it taped in the spot they had originally placed it. We left no cash because I'm obviously not leaving money out for someone to just take and walk away without providing their service. They repainted our curb number and just left an addressed envelope next to our front door asking us to send payment. Our curb looks nice, we opted for the American Flag option. No one else left the forms out and it looks like no one else's curb was repainted. We were happy with the service.
