have you ever seen how much waste there is in 98% of NH Fire calls? We don't need a two ladder trucks and 14 firefighters to show up when someone has shortness of breath. The real issue here is the union trying to scare folks into extra spending that isn't needed.

I think you mistake calls for help that don't specify the problem before hanging up and the fault is with the public and administration rather than the fire dept.When calling in I've been put on hold by 911 that should never happen and if it was your house on fire you wouldn't mind a hearty response ASAP wise up. the house next to mine burned a few years ago and the response was good and fast and the brave men and women did their jobs well God bless the NHFD.

You know not what you say you never get a second ladder truck unless a command officer calls for more help and generally a med call gets one engine preceeding the ambulance and thats because the city cut the number of rescue units decades ago . so we need more rescue units not less engines

I was contacted by new havens chief administrative officer Michael Carter after leaving messages for the mayors office of my concerns about cutting fire services and was berated by mr carter and told I didn't know his plans and that I was duped by the firefighters union and when I tried to share my concerns about city safety concerns he stated he was not interested in what I had to say and would institute his plan in spite of anyones objections...................not a very professional way to do his job ....maybe we could save the city some big bucks eliminating his job ....I'm sure he at least owes me an apology and a call to hear my concerns. What do you think Mayor Harp?

Engine 9 and rescue truck two as well as engine 6 and ladder truck 4from webster st and engine 15 in westville cover about 1/3rd of the city and on big fires go crosstown as well we need more help not less..the fire dept does a great job with limited resources.don't hurt their efforts to do a good job. lay off some high paid less vital personell if you must make cuts. Mr fontana and mayor Harp remember your citizens and tax payers They are also Voters who hired you!!!!! Thank you

Heard back from Mr Fontana and discussed the issue of fire and safety service cuts and he said no final action has been taken but changes will happen and we will likely lose an engine and gain a rescue ambulance somewhere in the city ....not a welcome thought if we ever have a fire and need a fire engine in a hurry .thanks for the call but still concerned about fire safety...please look elsewhere to make budget cuts or raise funds like taxing yales non educational properties they own a large amount of commercial property that are not on the tax rolls....no problem with no tax on legitamite educational properties but much of yales holdings are actually business holdings or yale owned buildings that were previously taxed property under previous owners .............please see what can be done on these issues Mayor Harp I know you are trying, try harder I also shared other suggestions with Mr Fontana and I'm open to sharing other ideas with you thank you

Attention new New Haven Fire Chief Welcome to new haven Good luck in your new job.....I hope you get some input in the issue of service cuts we need more help not less in new havens fire department/rescue/ambulance services as I'm sure you are discovering.....for many 911 and emergency rooms are the only healthcare for many people......

Although the mayors staff said it was a done deal the new fire chief seemed to have changed their mind a big thank you to the chief for keeping the public safe and the rank and file at the NHFD for their brave service to our city
