Your alder, Jessica Holmes, should have reported it herself. SeeClickFix is a convenient site, but I'm tired of it's being considered a city website; it's not!

Alderwoman Holmes: you ran for your job, now do it! A constituent called in with a valid complaint, and you passed it down the line to a third-party website. For shame! Take some responsibility for your ward.

I spoke to Alex and Public Works today. It should be addressed this afternoon. The city does use SeeClickFix as a way to encourage residents to report issues directly. Appropriate departments are notified of the post and address concerns from it.

I'm afraid you are mistaken; you didn't speak to me, Ms. Holmes. From my understanding, the problem was reported directly -- to you. Again, it is not clear to me why a third-party website is preferred to constituent-to-alder contact. Did you report the skunk? And, if you did in a timely way, why did you further suggest for your constituent to report it on here?

Just for clarification, the city does indeed have a contract with See Click Fix. Several departments are very active on it and utilize it as a work order system. We at Public Works utilize it as a call taking and work order system. If you call to report an issue, we too will enter it in to See Click Fix and follow up with a work order from there. Sorry about that, Alex! I got mixed up given the XYZ post suggesting I address you. I spoke to the person with the initial issue. I suggested he report it here because the city contracts with SeeClickFix as a work order system for multiple departments. It is a way of tapping into the system directly. There is a link to it on the city's website. It is helpful for lots of reasons--not the least of which is that it loops in multiple people at once (neighbors who may share the concern, city departments, and local alders).

Problem is in order for See Click Fix to work the city departments have to read the post. The problem gets worse if someone posts on the weekends or after hours. Also how are we suppose to know what departments monitor this site? I know that animal control does not have internet access so if you post something concerning them they won't see it.

Do you monitor this site during evening hours and weekends?

@XYZ That is not true about animal control, they do have internet access with a computer in their office as well as access to this site, they just don't monitor it like other departments do.

I was told not too long ago by someone who works there they do not. Maybe the computer does not work. Either way if you post something on her in regards to animals in all likely hood they will net see it. so the best way is to call them 203 946-8110

@XYZ, I was there in their office on Fournier St. and helped them to log into SeeClickFix and look at issues, so not sure where your info is coming from. You are correct thought that they do not monitor this site like the other departments do, however I would advise that residents report issues here in addition to calling the 946 number so that it creates a public record and we as residents can follow up accordingly.

Bottom line is if they do not monitor this site posting here is not going to help so you have to call 203 946-8110 if it is in regards to an animal. Also because we are not sure what departments monitor this site on a regular basis it is best to call. You can then post to alert others and to have a record you called,. in your post mention it was called in. When in doubt call public safety 203 946-6316.

Bottom line XYZ is to share as much info as possible and this is the site to do it, which is what we'll continue to do. Enjoy your day!

Bottom line is if you post something on this site and it needs attention and the city department who is responsible for it does not monitor this site you can post until the cows come home but nothing is going to get done unless you call. You can then post to alert others but mention in the post it was called in. This way you have a record.
I was also told by the police department yesterday that they do not monitor this site. I know my post upset people but I have to post the truth.
