We live in this corner. This is a very dangerous intersection for exactly the reason cited by the previous commenter. Traffic turning into Cold Spring from Whitney is almost always speeding. That caution light is a joke. There are a minimum of 5 accidents per year here involving ambulances. Leaving our driveway is perilous especially as we can't wee the cars traveling North on Whitney that turn. They're going so fast that they are at our driveway before we can see them. Traffic engineers need to do a serious analysis of this situation. one possible remedy might include making this block between Whitney and Everitt one way towards Whitney. Also please consider either posting a police car to catch speeders and/or making the caution/stop light a regular red/yellow/green with walk signs.

I was nearly killed tonight while crossing this intersection. Not one, but TWO cars failed to see me while I was attempting to cross: one blowing the stop sign on Cold Spring, and the other turning left off Whitney without checking for pedestrians. The street lighting is deeply inadequate, the zebra crossing lines are totally absent, and cars are constantly speeding because Cold Spring is a shortcut to I-95. I walk 4 miles a day to/from work in New Haven and this is, hands down, the most terrifying intersection to cross. Please, please fix this.

Agreed. While the repainting of the horizontal crosswalk lines was appreciated, it has not done much to make the crossing safer. I believe a long-term solution is necessary - either some sort of traffic-calming street design or addition or addition of a standard traffic light.

While the broader problem remains, there is need for a comprehensive solution to aggressive driving in this area.

Absolutely.. If you were to take a random sample of motorists travelling on Whitney Ave and ask the what the speed limit is, I doubt very much that more than 20% could answer correctly. And I imagine if you had checked their speed before taking the survey, virtually all would have been exceeding that speed limit.

The great majority of motorists are driving too fast to even recognize the new horizontal lines me check less act accordingly.
Our front window overlooks this corner, with a +160 degree view of Whitney. So, while unscientific, I can attest to a rich experience observing this corner. Please monitor this corner yourselves... Either the Traffic control or whomever else has responsibility for assuring public safety.

It is just s matter of time before someone is killed.
