Agree with this resident's assessment and concern on the 25mph stretch of Race Road and calming should be considered for Furnace Av as well with all the high density residential projects going on.

Truck traffic being restricted in Hanover Rd is now using Race/Furnace and signs are being knocked down almost every week. Coca Cola truck with Caution Wide Turns signs in the back come thru daily. Speeders who think it's funny the road is named Race claim they like to race the CSX trains. Other residents have erected "Drive Like Your Kids Live Here" signs on Race, and kids at River Watch play in the street on Furnace. There is also more pedestrian activity on Race as the Elkridge Furnace Inn has expanded its footprint. Should also have a marked crosswalk crossing Furnace at Race. Oh, and more houses being built on the west side of Race as we speak.

The address range should be more like 5700-6000 where the speed limit changes to 25mph.

Race Road needs to meet certain criteria to qualify for engineering retrofit(calming-humps). Required Volume is 1200 Vehicles per day and Operating speed of 35 MPH or more in a 25MPH zone and 40MPH or more in a 30MPH zone.. Both of these criteria must be met.
Recent counts (11/29/17-11/30/17) showed average volume 1066 vehicles per day and operating speed of 37.5 MPH. Volumes are less than the required minimum.

A single day does not accurately represent average traffic volume. Especially when it's so close to meeting the required threshold, you owe it to the residents on this street to sample traffic volume for a longer period of time. There are too many variables that could affect traffic for a single 24-hour sample.
