Hello-- As an almost senior with mobility and vision problems I agree with Mr. Gerstle. What the heck is going on that anyone and everyone is allowed and encouraged to obstruct the public right of way, causing residents to fall? Are police being called on disabled persons who complain that lime bikes are blocking their path? What kind of intimidation is this for disabled and senior Alameda residents? Limebikes are a reasonable idea, but they need to be parked in existing bike racks so as not to obstruct seniors and disabled persons. If Limebike can't achieve that, then the pilot project should be over, and they should be banned in Alameda. So far, every Limebike I have seen has been obstructing the public right of way, presenting a hazard for seniors and the disabled. Not a single one has been parked in a bike rack. Can't Limebike find some way to charge extra if users fail to put the bike in an existing bike rack? If not, Limebike should be out, gone, finished in Alameda, as the hazard to senior and disabled residents far far outweighs the novelty and convenience of residents having a bike to ride and dump anywhere.

I even saw a limebike parked in an interior hallway of a large apartment building. Surely a fire hazard.

It turns out the city manager does not read, or have her staff read, inquiries directed to her on SeeClickFix. If you want her to see this, you will have to email it to her. Her email is:

You might ask her also to remove the city manager category on SeeClickFix, or put up an automated notice that the city managerial not see SeeClickFix entries so please email or contact her via xy or z methods, etc. I have seen several irate complaints by citizens that their reports on this category of SCF are ignored.

This company is operating from a shipping container in the parking lot at the approximate address of 646 Taylor. They are operating a package delivery service using motorized vehicles operating on the sidewalk. Who authorized this? Do they have permits? Can they operate motorized vehicles on the sidewalk? A response is needed.

Just had another encounter with one of these on the sidewalk in front of my home. Could the City Manager respond? What is being done? If the City Manager is on vacation, could the Assistant City Manager respond?

Interesting. I was told that all requests for service had to go through SCF and not to write to PW directly. And yes, this is a request for service. It is a request to remove sidewalk obstructions. However, in the future, I will write directly.

This is a service request. Ms. Henry, I appreciate that the city manager's office is responding, but telling us you don't like the mode of our communication and to email you instead is not helpful. you may consider this my public email to the city manager's office in support of Mr. Gerstle's report that LimeBikes, robot deliverers, bollards, and other sidewalk obstructions allowed by the city are likely to injure disable and elderly people like us. I do not like that the city manager is asking citizens to each take individual effort, in secret, to solve this problem. The point of SeeClickFix is transparency, participation by the public, and public response by city agencies to hold them accountable. Why the secrecy?

An obstruction is an obstruction. It should not matter if it is caused by a well financed venture capital company or someone throwing construction debris on the sidewalk. Certainly, if people blocked a lane of traffic on Webster Street and someone called the APD, the police would view it as a service request and log it as such. It should be no different for pedestrians or the disabled asking for similar relief. The City needs to establish an ADA category for SeeClickFix that is addressed in a timely manner.
