  I have been a City Of Oakland Volunteer for 8 years and have lived in this neighborhood for 35 years. I have never seen such gross negligence by a City of Oakland Mayor in my life. People in my neighborhood can't even use the sidewalk, children from Edna Brewer Middle School can not longer use the 14th Avenue sidewalk at this location due to these homeless people blocking the sidewalk AND street with their tents and other debris. I have watched a generation of Edna Brewer students walk home from school for 35 years, but no more thanks to Mayor Schaaf and her cohorts at City Hall. By reason of Mayor Schaaf's gross negligence in acting for the benefit of 99% of Oaklanders, we have our equality under the law. Mayor Schaaf's negligence has turned us into second class citizens.
  I maintain the traffic barrier planters at 14th Avenue at E. 33rd Street. I have found plastic bags full of human excrement discarded in these planters. I am obliged to remove it to prevent kids from risking a health hazard if they were to pick up and open these bags.
  It seems that Mayor Schaaf's obsession with supporting homeless people over all of the rest of us, including school kids, is a VERY DESTRUCTIVE civic policy. Perhaps Madame Mayor would like to help me clean up the bags of human excrement?

  Sentinel sadly well put. This is total disregard for the health, safety and well being of the tax paying citizens. Zero enforcement creates zero consequences. I am also KOCB volunteer PWD crews cannot pick up any kind of Bio hazards or hazardous waste of any kind. OFD is supposed to handle hazardous waste and a sub contractor Advanced Crime Scene Clean up for all bio hazards. Weather it is human waste or used syringes one cannot wait days for someone or not to show up. So we just bag and clean up the crap as best we can and haul the syringes to Alameda Co household waste. Be safe.

  There are feces inside of plastic bottles discarded in this area as well as one of the tents with active cars parking and visitors in and out of the tent. I have witnessed one of the people living the tents doing some some questionable things and piling up garbage on the corner can. Today a woman was lying in filth and garbage and I guess has moved into the area. No place to walk up there now and take my little one to ride his bike. I've seen kids with parents walking in the street to avoid the tents. This is hazardous and no longer safe for the neighborhood. Paying a good amount of property taxes and with housing as much as it costs it now there should be some sort of clean up or solution for these people. Please address this issue and send them elsewhere.

  It appears that the woman that was lying in her garbage yesterday has constructed a new tent. If nothing is done, I believe this encampment will just continue to grow.

  It is very clear from reading all of the previous comments that this situation is now a full blown neighborhood crisis that needs to be addressed by the City of Oakland, forthwith. I have coined a metaphor for the current city government, "The City of Oakland is like a rudderless ship drifting aimlessly in a sea of mediocrity." Quel dommage.

  Unbelievable. SeeClickFix has rejected by latest post became I used 2 French words meaning "what a pity" to describe the homeless encampment situation. This is "political correctness" gone berserk. I will re-post my last comment.

  I too have incurred the wrath of the moderators. I doubt she put the tent up. There is a large number of advocates and do gooders helping these lost folks out. Basically free everything but what they are really jonesing for. The endless enabling, pandering and diaper service needs to end it is not helping and is further ruining this city.

  The City council' s apparent hands off approach to expanding homeless encampments shows a lack of leadership. Let's relocate encampments to the park in front of City Hall or better yet near each council member's home.

  Nice hands off approach..i now have a great view of tents and trash from my window. Another huge tent blocking sidewalk and another 2 small ones surrounded by old matress and trash.. now there really i no way to walk up the street without walking in the street. REAL SAFE when there are multiple bus lines and freeway exit nearby.

  There have been multiple fires around the encampments. It looks like one of the big tents completely burned to the ground. I saw a burnt mattress in the middle of the sidewalk on a previous day.

  Yes, I saw the smoke the other day from my living room. Apparently, fires are common in homeless encampments. It's too bad the City of Oakland has done NOTHING in response to neighbors complaints about the squalor created by this homeless encampment.

  On the parking issue, many years ago I had the City of Oakland place NO PARKING signs prohibiting overnight parking and had more powerful overhead light installed. Today's City of Oakland under the leadership or the elitist Mayor Schaaf, neighborhood residents get little or nothing.

  My previous comments has be censored by SeeClickFix. I guess my opinions are not sufficiently "politically correct". Perhaps Mayor Schaaf complained to SeeClickFix to shut down free speech. I son't know, but I was in the Sproul Hall sit-in at Cal, so I've faced the same thing before.

  This really needs to be addressed. Forcing people to walk or roll their wheelchairs into a busy street because the sidewalk is inaccessible is ridiculous. Where is CM Guillen? I have not heard back from his office. The city is completely ignoring us. There was a burned mattress, broken glass & needles everywhere last week.

  The kids that walk from Edna Brewer Middle School by this horrid homeless mess are getting a lesson in civics. These kids can see that their City of Oakland government is lax, indifferent, and cares little for our neighborhood. Talk, talk, talk and do nothing. I think that describes what we are paying a lot of taxed for.
