I'm sure I've learned more about New Haven from you than I have from anyone else, but I also believe there might be a small misunderstanding between your advice and the mentality of some of the residents who report issues via this platform.
I've noticed there have been many issues reported on this platform that probably should have been "Called in" to someone of a certain level of authority, but we have to remember, the person who reported the issue on SeeClickFix did much more than all of the other people who also noticed the same issue, but took no action at all.
Let's look at an example:
John Doe noticed smashed glass at a bus stop. More than 25 people also noticed the same discrepancy, but only John Doe reported this haphazard.
After John Doe reported the issue via SeeClickFix, the next posted comment is from XYZ, telling him he should have called someone.
From the perspective of John Doe, he might think it would have been best if he had remained silent. That way, he would not have had to have listened to your ridicule.
I'm guessing this post might seem a bit unusual, but I'm sure we all want the same thing. A way to report issues to make our city safer without fear of ridicule.
People should know what should be reported on this site and when to use the phone. My posts never ridiculed anyone they just inform people the proper way to report a problem and what may happen if there is a delay in getting a safety issue address. The way things are going I would not be too surprised if someone reported a fire on this site.

The following appears on your site when the topic Signs/Bus Stops/Pavement Markings is chosen
NOTE: If there is a problem with a Traffic Signal, please call the Transportation, Traffic and Parking Department directly at (203) 946-8075 between 9 am and 5 pm, M -F or call the New Haven Police Department after hours or on weekends at (203) 946-6316.
I suggest you have this appear whenever there is an issue of safety

In response to your post about people not wanting to report on this site because of my my so call ridicule. Let for the sake of argument assume this is true, don't you think many are calling problems in because of my posts where I tell people safety issues should be reported by phone ? Also if you had an employee who was a doing a job but their was room for improvement would you not tell him because you feared he would just stop trying?
XYZ,
Your logic is sound. I agree, users who read your feedback about calling someone contributes to expediting resolutions of various critical issues, but we are social creatures who react to feedback in many different ways.
This appears to be a double edged sword. Your advice to other users to call someone is conducive to helping understand how to report critical issues, but it also slightly serves as a deterrent to those users from taking the initiative to report any further issues in the future.
We are both right. I can't think of a way to inform the "Go getters" that they should call someone AND also acknowledge their initiative to do the right thing while other citizens have done nothing to help.

Yes, reporting on this site is better then nothing and some sensitive people may not want to post because of the way I have reacted in the past but I think my posts about reporting safety issues have done more good then bad. Also I think the following message from See Click Fix, was because of my posts telling people to use the phone when there is an issue of safety. NOTE: If there is a problem with a Traffic Signal, please call the Transportation, Traffic and Parking Department directly at (203) 946-8075 between 9 am and 5 pm, M -F or call the New Haven Police Department after hours or on weekends at (203) 946-6316.
