This is minor littering, a violation of AMC 4-1.6 Commercial Littering and has been referred to Code Enforcement. Weeds on the property are green and not a fire hazard.

I agree with G that this lot is an eyesore and the owner should be more responsible. Since there is litter as well as tall weeds there is a perfect habitat for rodents. We don't deserve neglect in West Alameda. This was an asset when people could use it to park at the Farmer's Market. The West End Farmer's Market is now dying slowly. People are busier, working more and without parking cannot access the Famer's Market without spending a lot of time walking or biking. I don't know who paid for its use 8 years ago but back then it was helping Webster Street.
Then there was a plan approved to build a retail structure with housing above. Don't know why that did not already happen. Only thing wrong with that idea was that the trees in the lot are now established and beautiful. I was hoping they would be transplanted and not condemned to death.

Gerstle, please keep up the good work in reporting dangerous conditions. I appreciate that you work on issues that impact persons with disabilities, the elderly, and children. The city mistakenly referred this to Fire Prevention, when it should have been sent to Code Enforcement. Thank you, fire prevention, for assessing the issue, and determining it is not a fire hazard. I hope the trash dumped on private property, and weeds growing out of control on private property, are addressed by code enforcement. Even if they are not, I hope Gerstle will keep working to document these issues, despite JFoote's negativity.

The debris from the lot has been moved to the sidewalk, blocking disabled access.
