This guy gives me the creeps. He drives around in that minivan with the flashing lights and a security hat on. I told my grandkids to stay away from him. He does not convey a sense of security at all.

If you would go to the Vasser Park meetings you would’ve found out about him and that he and his wife have taken over for another volunteer that has been doing it in the past for years. He and his family have lived in this neighborhood for over 15 years. He is in contact with the police when something is reported. I myself am great full he is doing this. If you’re so upset about this maybe your doing something that you shouldn’t be!

Let be me clear, the gentlemen before were very helpful without being intrusive. I was very thankful for their help in the past. However, this particular individual has gone overboard. Unfortunately, we don’t live in a world that allows us the luxury of ignoring gut feelings. I always trust intuition and clearly it’s not just a select few getting an uncomfortable, natural reaction.

Lareda, he said he's lived here 12 years. Why do we need him to make reports to the police? What purpose does he serve...he's only doing what any resident can do. I'm sure he's a nice guy...but I share the concerns of others.

He was giving candy to children. That stopped when someone raised concerns BUT my worry is that he didn't even know enough to NOT entice children to his van with candy. I'm sure he's a 'nice' guy; but this shows a lack of training/understanding of what's appropriate. I'm concerned that he's driving around with a "Security" hat on as if he's a TRAINED security officer...is he? Does anyone really know this person well? Was there a background check? I'm also concerned that the VPNA can start a program like this without neighbor input...not everyone can come to meetings and there was no explanation/communication beforehand...not in the newsletter, not on Facebook, Nextdoor or in an email. What/who gives them the authority to start a patrol like this?

I observed him blocking traffic to stop and 'check in' on African American neighbors who were getting out of their car in front of their home...the volunteers in the past just drove around...the point was that flashing lights would be enough to let people know that someone was watching...but to stop and confront neighbors and give candy to children?!? To stop in the middle of roads & block traffic? NOT appropriate.

FYI . Mr. Hines also has supplied our water for the community garden( he lives next door ) for years and had helped there quite a bit. The slander in some above comments is not appropriate either.

Mr Hines was present at the VPNA general meeting on May 15, 2018 , as well as 20 other neighborhood members, We had 2 guests from the CPD , one of which was Sgt Vanover, who enlightened us on the new state of the CPD in relation to zones and personnel. We at the time actively discussed the Block Watch Program. This meeting was announced prior on the newsletter, on Facebook and is every 3rd Tuesday of the month,, at Schreiber Elementary, and had for years now. My questions to you are: Are you a resident over 18? were you there? are you a dues paying member? Do you call your board member with your concerns? Get involved and get facts. First of all my dad is a trained security officer and with any comments sense people u do realize when patrolling the neighborhood u do have to go slow, I really don't think you want ya kids getting hit by someone speeding. He is a nice guy. And he was asked by Brett Moore to help patrol the neighborhood. There are many neighbors that will stand behind him. Now what if one of you isn't paying attention to ya kids and they just up and walk off? If he's patrolling and taking a good look then he be able to identify the place that child lives, cantin police have other matters to attend to than patrolling an neighborhood. So I'm standing behind my dad . Unless you know the truth then I suggest y'all just shut ya mouth for real he's doing his job and protecting ya stuck up ungrateful a****!

And also he has provided the water for y'all community garden, he's patrolled during trick or treat to make sure ya kids are safe. Now of ya all want Everytime you use the water to water ya precious garden tour could pay him...cuz that his water bill, but no he does it out of the kindness of his heart. I have been on patrol before with my dad and have seen him do nothing wrong and there's nothing wrong with stopping and saying hello and seeing if someone's was ok. What is wrong with you people???

There are over 600 homes in VPNA. We have 5 anonymous people who are absolutely crucifying a man because of gut feelings, rumors, innuendos and exaggerations. The CPD will probably investigate him and he will be cleared. But will his life ever be the same again? I don't think so. He has already been threatened because of this. He doesn't deserve this and I hope you are all very proud of yourselves!

It is vile and despicable. These people are guilty of character assassination and should be investigated by the police themselves.

You people are threatening my dad and are slandering him can stop now I do have friends who work for the city and I can have charges pressed for slandering and harassment. My dad is only doing his job and being curtious saying hi making sure the neighborhood is safe considering there are plenty of places around there that idiots can hide, I know I have walked that neighborhood before looking for scrap or with Brett's son and my boyfriend and my kids. Amen to that Rick! I'm on my kids about bullying, and it's cowardice that adults don't as well and if they have kids what's that teaching them? That bullying is ok well it's not! I know my dad can be a jerk sometimes but that man will help anybody out if he's able to. He didn't have to patrol y'all neighborhood.
