A utility is installing gas lines on Roosevelt Street and Extension. They're digging trenches, laying pipe, filling with sand, and finally patching with asphalt. They are only, however, patching with asphalt over the narrow trenches that they have dug. But the digging equipment has caused severe cracking in the surface Pavement. In some places there are pieces of pavement that you can walk over and lift out of the street. In other areas there are no holes where you can see down underneath the pavement.. They're leaving the pavement surface in much much worse condition than before they started to dig for the gas lines. Who is responsible for pavement repair? The utility is essentially destroying half the width of the entire Street and extension. The street and extension were paved several years ago (it had never been paved after the development was built in the early 1960s) after a petition was submitted by residents to the City. The pavement at that time was lifting up and it was unsafe. I'm concerned this will happen again and we will be unable to get it repaired.

Can someone from public works please inspect before the workers leave? It appears that they will still be working for the next several days (today is 7/16). If it is the utility's responsibility to avoid damage to pavement, then the City should have the utility fix the pavement before they leave with their equipment. Thank you.
