Whalley Ave coming down into Westville is too wide for the short duration of the walk lights for slow walkers and people with handicaps. Right now I’m very slow and use a cane. Earlier this week I nearly got hit when crossing from the library side of Pendleton to the BEKI side. I started as soon as the light changed to ‘WALK’ and I was sure all cars were stopping) and, as I passed the car in the third lane, the light changed and a car coming rapidly up the hill on the last lane never even slowed down. ( For him the light was green by then and he never noticed that I was still crossing.)
The walk lights downtown give pedestrians more time.
