Why is there often a police car blocking a lane of traffic during the evening commute near Alewife station? I could see the usefulness of a police officer directing traffic near a construction site, but there's no construction happening at that time of day, and the police office isn't directing traffic, just sitting in his car. This turns an already busy intersection into a parking lot.

In the future, if you see this type of activity, we encourage you to call the Cambridge Police non-emergency number at 617-349-3300. It may have potentially been an officer with another department (Transit Police?).
