Probably the same reason nothing is done when you have witnesses and license plates. City workers are too secure with their jobs and no one in higher management is doing their jobs. We need accountability and far stricter fines and community service etc. instead of tolerance , excuses and looking the other way.
Accountability. Yes we need some. That’s why I keep asking for the statistic numbers from iDeal Vallejo. Evidently Officer Gomez has been instructed to stick to the canned responses here on SCF. When I spoke with him at the CSS office is, he said I would have to go through the City Manager‘s office to get those numbers. So I am trying to contact the city manager yet again (we shall see if I get a response). Ideally this would be something that is included in the city managers bi-weekly report. I would like to know if there has been a reduction of illegal dumping. But a comment from Keith in the Grounds Division said, “there has been a 30% increase in illegal dumping reports“. Whether that is an actual increase in physical dumping or an increase in reporting on the app, we have to ask. Keith also stated that his normal team of 8 is only 4 right now, and have four months or less experience on the job.
So are they hiring and why would you need much experience as this shouldn't be that complicated? I see excuses and incompetence as usual. Why does it always seem government employees can't properly manage their positions?
Thank you for reporting! A work order has been created for this issue. Staff will be scheduled to investigate this issue. We will keep you updated on our action.
Thanks again Keith. We would really like to see iDeal Vallejo & Officer Gomez have a try at using the camera footage, and see that he has take on this case.
Thanks for reporting! Our staff responsible for removing, sorting, and dumping all illegal dumping in Vallejo has picked up the illegal dumping reported at this location. If you have any questions or concerns regarding this issue, please call the Maintenance Division at 707-648-5235. Thanks again for using SeeClickFix!
Made it into the City Manager's office and they had me talk to the City Attorney The number of illegal dumping cases refereed to him is only 7. That's about one a month since iDEAL Vallejo's inception. He stated that the goal was for 20 or more prosecutions this year. Of the 7 cases sent, apparently only one or two have gone through the courts and maybe one fine of $250 has been collected, as most fail to appear and get a bench warrant etc. The addition of a couple of cameras are "in the works" - no timeline or location given for when. With any luck over time the success rate should increase. Stay vigilant, keep reporting and suggesting new deterrents to our officials and City Hall until the get the message we are serious about eliminating this blight.
