Making public generalizations about a group of people based on your interactions with a few probably isn’t a good way to start..... maybe you should build a wall , err, a fence ...

The only people I am generalizing about are the people who are abusing my property with their dogs. Unfortunately it is more than "a few people". There are numerous offenders every day. It is extremely frustrating, especially when these people act like they have a right to be there.
A fence would not work since my tenants need to get into and out of the driveway and I don't think it would be possible to fence off the tree line.

Maybe take out your cam phone , film them , call the cops ...perhaps someone will make them pick up after their dogs , using something other than ...

Frank the area in question is the only patch of grass not fenced on mechanic street. It’s actually not immediately obvious that it’s private property. People and dogs will take the path of least resistance... like you did by posting this here. Talk to the building manager. Put up a fence or some shrubs across and a private property sign. I don’t live at Corsair and my dog has peed on your grass.... I’m sorry.

I’m not surprised. I would think calling corsair’s management might be your best bet.

If the Corsair management does not help you by posting that it is trespassing to go onto private property. Perhaps you need to get a lawyer involved ? Having video camera recordings of the perpetrators will also help make your case. I would also submit a landscaping bill to Corsair for reseeding of your property & any damage done by these sterling citizens. Hopefully anyone reading your post will stop doing this & apologize like Jr, now that they know this is private property. What a world we live in today. People are totally self absorbed. No consideration of doing the right thing.

I couldn't find a contact number for the Corsair management. The only number listed is for the leasing office so I was just hoping they might see this.

It just seems inconceivable that it wouldn't be obvious that this is private property. Every house and every yard on the street is private property. In fact, the Corsair is private property (although corporate owned). If it weren't, whose property would it be? If you know it's not your property and it doesn't belong to the city then it must be privately owned right?
I can put up private property and no trespassing signs but it's going to look bad.

Frank , the leasing office is open seven days a week and on the other side of the block , walk over. The manager is on site. It isn’t obvious and no one is stopping you from putting up a nice fence and some landscaping. There are more serious crimes and issues in the immediate neighborhood than a dog peeing on your lawn.

Finally after some research is sounds like you owe one of your neighbors an apology. Approaching a stranger by shouting “get the fcuk off my lawn” doesn’t seem appropriate.

Feeling like your home is not your own and that your are being trampled on (or peed on as the case may be) is a serious issue. I don’t think Frank should be belittled for asking for help with this issue.

Angelika, you had some great ideas, including submitting a bill to Corsair and having video. However, I doubt Corsair holds responsibility for what its tenants do off-site.

Andy, I like the sprinkler idea. Do they have any motion-sensitive sprinklers, or does anyone know how to jerry-rig one? In any case, Frank, for $20 you can put up a bright motion-sensor light so any dog-owner is caught red-handed, so to speak, in a big yellow pool of light on your lawn.

Frank, private property and no trespassing signs look better than yellowed grass and bedraggled landscaping (I have similar problems in my neighborhood and it makes me wanna holler).

JR, are you the official monitor policing what is appropriate or inappropriate for this forum? If I had a dog that did the dirty, I'd completely understand if an exasperated homeowner raced out and told me to "get the fcuk off my lawn." It takes a lot of effort and cash to do the neighborly thing of trying to make our front yards attractive.

JR -- A nice blithe response. Have you priced the cost of nice fencing and plants lately? Maybe you and the other culprits can get together and buy a healthy gift card for Frank.

Sara: You are absolutely right. Frank should not be belittled. He should be supported in his quest to find solutions to this ugly and smelly problem.

If only there were a way to persuade dog owners to hold their dogs close to their sides and trot down to the dog park before the pooches can mark every tree and bush... How about making a cardboard template of paw prints and spray paint the prints in an arc into the street, hinting that dog owners should lead their pooches along that little path and thereby circumvent homeowners' grass/trees/etc. ?

Frank -- Yes there are more serious problems. But putting up with this sort of thing is like the "broken window" concept that leads to a general disregard for civility in a neighborhood.

I'm sorry I lost my cool but what do you say when somebody acts like they have a right to destroy your property. I politely informed the individual that my yard was not the dog park and that the dog park was at the end of the street. He was rude and refused to leave. I did not approach him the way he said. That only came after he showed a defiant sense of entitlement and refused to leave. I know that I should have been the better man and held it together and I will try to be more polite next time. It would be one thing and somewhat understandable if they were on or next to the sidewalk but they were in the yard.
Unfortunately this happens in broad daylight so a light would have no effect. In fact, it happens in broad daylight with me standing there in plain sight so the offenders have no shame and no concept of right or wrong and maybe that's what bothers me the most.
Thanks to all of the neighbors who have been supportive here. You have some really great ideas. Unfortunately they will only work for the responsible dog owners but I guess it's a start.

This is a fine forum for a discussion but my point for Frank is that if you actually want to do something about this go talk to Corsair management who can directly communicate with all their residents. Not everyone uses SCF.

Further, nothing discussed here is that ground breaking and this issue didnt pop up overnight. Ask Corsair to post a sign or Frank you can put up a fence or post your own sign. Two sections of chain-link fence would be under 250 installed. A few shrubs and some mulch and a nice sign would cost half that.

You can also call the police as suggested, because they have plenty of free time and nothing more serious to handle. :)

The 35’ of chain link fence would probably be more like $600-$700 installed and that really isn’t the look I’m going for.
I actually removed the chain link fence and the bars from the windows years ago because I felt it was bad for the neighborhood. I will look for a better solution

Water dilutes urine. With all the rain we have been getting maybe the urine is not causing the yellowing. Also I read that urine from a female dog is more likely to cause yellowing

Frank, those cost estimates are incorrect. Further your side yard is less than half that length. Plant some shrubs with, put up a sign, call your alder or call the cops.

Realistically - the yard looks fine but I would love to know the look your going for ...

Wait! Why is this issue being closed?! It's a health issue as well as a police issue!
Last week when I got home a woman was encouraging her two small dogs (lint on a leash type) to trample and etc. on a portion of my front garden where just a few weeks before I had planted about $50 worth of pretty pansies. The woman was caught red-handed, and I screamed and yelled, and I didn't care what my neighbors thought. Meanwhile, now that patch of pretty delicate little flowers is as DEAD AS A DOORNAIL. Bare brown dirt right next to my front stairs. Honestly, why do we even bother to spend the cash and do the gardening work make things look nice when axoles purposely destroy our efforts? I really want to shame this woman, because I am so fing po-ed!!!
