The dumpster in front of the former laundromat has been overfilled and spilling over onto the sidewalk for months. Quite an eyesore! It needs to be removed!
l telephoned All American Waste on June 17th and was told that they cannot remove the dumpster until they get a release from the City of New Haven which needs state test results regarding asbestos. I called the State DEEP and was told to contact the New Haven Health Department. I contacted our health department and spoke with Roz Hamilton. She informed me that she has a copy of an October 2018 letter sent from the state to Kaoud (the owner) and would get back to me as to why the issue is still open. Roz Hamilton called me later in the day (June 18) to tell me that the state EPA referred the Kaoud matter to the federal DEP. She advised me that she would contact the Feds and get back to me. Alas, I've heard nothing since! Roz has since been appointed acting head of the health department and the phone number I had is no longer an operating number.
Seems as if the dumpster is being held hostage. Does anyone know how to get a hold of Roz Hamilton, since she seems to hold the crystal ball on this issue. Have you contacted your Alder ?
On Sept. 27, 2018 the City of New Haven's Building Dept. issued a Stop Work Order, due to the fact that exploratory demolition and other work was being performed without a permit. The legal owner is 151 Howard LLC although the "human" owners are the Kaoud family, who are also the longtime owners of Eddys (corner of Howard & Second St) and who live in Orange CT.
