There should be bump outs installed at this intersection to daylight it, slow down the cars and make it safer for peds to cross by shortening the distance for crossing Central.

We will conduct a preliminary traffic assessment to determine if this treatment is warranted at this intersection. Please allow 3 to 4 weeks for the preliminary study to be completed. Please note that RRFBs (Rapid Rectangular Flashing Beacons) or user-actuated pedestrian warning signs will be installed at the intersection of Central Ave and Reservoir Ave. They are expected to be installed by the end of this month. The locations will be marked out next week.

This is a prime location for Speed Bumps/Cushions. Also would help along Webster/Baldwin Avenues. Traffic is coming here from Holland Tunnel and tries to shortcut to Tonnelle Ave leading to reckless drivers in the neighborhood.

Not just a park but a very active park with tons of visitors daily. Many who walk there come from the east side or the Central Ave. side of the park. This section of Central Ave. is part of the High Injury Network according to the Vision Zero Action Plan for JC. Improvements here are pretty much a no-brainer.

Was a traffic study ever conducted?

RRFBs were installed at this location to help warn drivers of pedestrians waiting to cross Central Ave. A preliminary traffic assessment was conducted based on Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) guidelines as outlined in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD). The assessment included a review of the intersection’s crash history. Based on JCPD crash reports, this intersection does not meet the minimum FHWA threshold for major crashes to warrant a change in traffic control. Therefore, we do not recommend the construction of a traffic signal at this location at this time. Howver, we will install delineators at the intersection to clear the corners to improve the visibility between pedestrians and drivers.
