  We watch every day as cars speed recklessly past our home to make that light at High Street. The nearest stop sign to High street is Gibbons, which is so far away. We would love to see another stop sign at Fountain and Santa Clara.

  Thank you for submitting your request to the City of Alameda Public Works Department. We are currently developing a new process for handling traffic calming requests. Each request will be scored based on various quantitative and qualitative traffic related criteria. The requests with the highest scores will then be added to a list (to be reviewed for the next 1-2 fiscal years). Requests that are not selected will remain in the pool for consideration at a later time. We will add your request to the pool so that it may go through the selection process.

  Since you are interested in bicycle and pedestrian safety issues, please note that the City will be updating its Bicycle and Pedestrian Plans starting in mid-2019. If you’d like to receive notices about opportunities to provide input on these updates, please send your email address to transportation@alamedaca.gov.

  In the meantime, we will reassign this case to APD so that they may enforce the area.

  I disagree that this is just bicycle and pedestrian safety. I have witnessed several traffic accidents on High Street. It is dangerous for the way traffic flow is is currently set up. There are two schools in the area mentioned which adds traffic to mornings and afternoons. I have requested this issue to be looked into quite some time ago and the only thing that changed was the pedestrian sign has been replaced twice since it has been knocked over and basically destroyed.

  Yes a stop sign/speed bumps might be a deterrent. But honestly there seems to a total disregard for stop signs, stop lights, or pedestrians. I live on Lincoln between High and Gibbons. It’s like a freeway. In a given hour I see 9 out of 10 people ignoring the stop sign at Fountain and Lincoln. Did the traffic law change? You don’t have to stop at a stop sign or red light if there isn’t another car within 50 feet? My hairdresser is at Santa Clara and High. I happened to be there the day after the crash into Lincoln Park. She says people approach that light all the time at a high rates of speed and try to make or beat the light. I have been in the crosswalk on a green light there and almost been hit!!!

  I agree with Linda's point that stop signs do not seem to deter the most aggressive drivers cutting through the neighborhood. COA should consider more widespread use of speed bumps on secondary roads.
