Over the past several years, Magna residents have brought up concerns about traffic on State Route 111 or 8400 West going through town at high rate of speed that create many unsafe situations. The Salt Lake County project included adding sidewalk, narrowing shoulders and construct raised medians, as an effort to induce traffic calming, reduce traffic speed and improve safety on 8400 West.

The construction of the median is part of the Salt Lake County traffic calming project on State Route 111. UDOT staff has met with Salt Lake County staff and Magna City elected officials on Wednesday, August 7th. Salt Lake County is looking to Magna city preference as to what changes need to be made concerning the median. UDOT will support both Salt Lake County and Magna's city once a final decision is made. Since this is an active Salt Lake County funded project, the county will direct their contractor on what changes need to be made.
