Description
This traffic light on Concord Ave (just east of the rotary) causes inbound traffic to back up and block the rotary, such that outbound Fresh Pond Pkwy traffic can't enter the rotary. Fresh Pond Pkwy typically backs up all the way back to Mt Auburn St, causing gridlock at that intersection, as early as 7:30 am.
Timing the pedestrian crossing light by the Sunoco station could allow the rotary to clear out.

As a possible solution, I am suggesting that the pedestrian signal between the two rotaries could be used to control traffic as well.

Thanks for your report. This traffic signal should be triggered by pedestrian-demand, i.e. the light should only turn red when a pedestrian has pushed the button to cross Concord Ave. We will confirm that is how it is actually operating in the field and that a button isn’t “stuck” on. Assuming that this is functioning normally, we do not plan to change the manner in which it operates at this time.
The traffic signal in the middle of the two rotaries is owned and operated by the Department of Conservation and Recreation (DCR). You may contact them using the email/phone number below for further inquiries/suggestions for their signal.
