Description
Due to construction the bike lane has been removed and bicyclists are forced to ride into fast moving traffic. There needs to be a "Bikes Allowed Full Use of Lane" sign, or something similar warning drivers that bicycles will be in the middle of the traffic lane. This is one of the most popular bike routes in the area and has now been made more dangerous.

Oakland DOT staff are already following up on this, and are supposedly working with Caltrans to update the controls to maintain a continuous bike lane past the construction zone. Last I heard this was going to be installed sometime this week.
The end product once construction is complete will also be much safer, with a separated bike lane continuing curbside toward the freeway entrance, where a bike signal will allow bike riders will be able to proceed up the hill without having to cross over lanes of moving car traffic at all. This project is the end result of a lawsuit against Caltrans associated with the Caldecott Tunnel fourth bore construction going back to 2008.

Here's the temporary construction controls update plan, which adds the bike lane back at the freeway ramp approach.
The final project will have a continuous uphill bikeway facility on the right across both the Berkeley and Oakland sides of the border, with no need for bike riders to merge left into a pocket lane.

Dear Mr. Peter,
Thank you for contacting OAK311 regarding this matter. Please describe the section of Tunnel Road where the construction is taking place. Your assistance in this matter is greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

The construction is taking place at the intersection of Tunnel Road/Highway13/Hiller Drive. As noted above the intersection is being redesigned in part so that it will be safer for bicyclists. It sounds like this is a Caltrans project. The section of Tunnel Road that is now more dangerous is from about 500' before the traffic light to the light itself in the southbound direction.
