Description
My rental unit backs up to Peabody Lane near the Emeryville border. I'm thrilled to see that street got resurfaced recently, it was in dire need. However, now I'm concerned that the improvement in asphalt quality will lead to more traffic.
Peabody Lane suffers from being used as a shortcut for drivers, and they often speed both directions down the street. Peabody is essentially a one-lane road since cars are allowed to park on the residential side of the street. Many residences on this street (including my own) have entrances that empty directly onto the street. Many families use Peabody as a pedestrian avenue, with dogs and kids on bikes. When I'm sitting in my home and hear a car speeding by at high speeds, I say a silent prayer that no pedestrians or residents get hurt.
It would be excellent for the neighborhood's public safety to have Peabody Lane be a One-Way street (with appropriate signage) out toward San Pablo Ave. This would decrease the chance of a head-on vehicle collision. And given the blind corners and high pedestrian use, it would be nice to have speed bumps or other speed abatement improvements to discourage vehicle speeding.
