Just had similar experience while crossing and Uber driver in a blue Mazda van TP3 MZW almost ran over my heels while I was crossing w 2 dogs. Driver said I was “past”.. so I guess that means he didn’t have to slow down or keep X feet away from pedestrians. The flashing lights don’t deter anyone from speeding through, would be good to have some police stand by during high traffic times. Thanks

It’s been two months since this request… Any updates about this study?? People requested multiple pedestrian safety studies in the hights and it’s looking to be a serious and dangerous problem.

Any updates at all? Has the study even gotten started? It’s so dangerous especially at rush hours. Would like to know if this is getting taken seriously.

As a resident of the Pershing Park area, I feel unsafe crossing Central Avenue along the park. I have had more than a few bear misses with cars, even while I was using the crosswalk. Cars speed and don’t stop at the crosswalks. Please install at least one light and make sure there’s enforcement along this stretch of Central Ave.

Is anyone in the city going to tell us anything?? Clearly people feel this intersection is unsafe. Multiple requests were put in. Multiple request around Pershing park on central and summit put in… no updates 8 months later. Shameful!!!

Again no updates. I will add that I found out there used to be a traffic light on the corner of booraem and central back in the 70s or 80s but was removed because of the firehouse on ferry and central couldn’t get their firetrucks through traffic. Well the firehouse is not in operation and so those traffic lights can come back today. Again all around this park are pedestrian safety requests. The city needs to take this seriously

It’s really troubling that the city isn’t taking this seriously. Even lately I’ve witnessed really close calls between cars and pedestrians. I hope someone saves this thread so that when (God forbid) something bad does happen, it will be clear that residents have been trying to alert the mayor and council members to this issue.

Ok so I almost got ran over the last few times I went to the park and they were all between 7-9 pm not even rush hour. Imagine rush hour.. I want to know the Plan the city will take in this intersection: stop lights, ballards, extended corners which one? At this moment in time the city should have an idea over one year later. This and a few others needs to be a priority. Honestly the city redid the sidewalk near the crosswalk and didn’t change a thing.. how is that useful tax expenditure??!! And btw when they redid the sidewalk they made pedestrians walk IN THE STREET on central okayyy so much for pedestrian safety I guess. I think victor should get let go and this department audited. Till this day I never seen a cop car parked on central. Y’all hurting for money right why don’t u ticket speeders?

Hello beautiful people of the Heights. There are 7 different threads all on this subject. I have chosen this one to be the main ticket and will mark all others as duplicates.

Pulling all of these issues into one, helps us review all of the issues for the area; gives a bigger impact to see all of the comments and suggestions; and allows us to update everyone in a single place.

Now some of the request vary in suggestions and complaints, but the bottom line is that the entire stretch of Central Ave along the park needs solutions. I will be taking all the issues and pulling them in a report for the traffic engineers. This will ensure all of the suggestions and issues are heard, including the traffic light like the one at Supremos.

I am not supposed to give my personal opinion, but I have driven north and south on central ave with no problems. I do drive slowly and watch for pedestrians. This past week I drove down JFK and turned on Manhattan to get to Central, where i wanted to make a left. I could not be more confused. Do I wait for every care traveling north on Central to clear the intersection? Or was I just supposed to cut in? I was so confused. Now I understand with first hand experience.

I will be making a summary of all of the issues, from all of the duplicates and this one, later today.

There’s not many issues with visibility on central unless cars park in t crosswalk. The issue is speeding and the fact that there is no traffic light or stop sign between Manhattan and prospect so cars pass Manhattan speeding to catch the next green light 4 blocks away.
An actual intersection of Manhattan and central on the other side of the intersection you pointed out (coming from Sherman) had a ticket open because there was no traffic light and it was closed by someone saying there was one. There is none lol and no one knows what to do similar to what you described. Would love to put in a ticket for that if someone will do a legitimate inspection…
