I may not be understanding this issue correctly. To my understanding the separated bike lane on Mass Ave between Roseland Street to Waterhouse Street is part of MassAve4 Project (https://www.cambridgema.gov/Departments/publicworks/cityprojects/2021/massave4cyclingsafetyordinanceprojectdudleytobeach,roselandtowaterhouse). Shouldn't this issue be address as part of MassAve4 project?

The answer to concerned NC resident is "yes." but clearly this complaint is from someone who is unaware of MassAve4 Project. However, the complainant should not have to wait until protected bike lanes below Porter Sq. are installed. A city regulation banning sidewalk bicycling along most of Mass. Ave. between the Common & just above Walden is in effect now and has been for 24 years. To reinforce that regulation, the city stenciled curb cuts with a NO Bicycling-on-sidewalks logo to ensure that both peds and cyclists knew where the ban applied. For years the NO BOS stencils were re-applied every couple of years by TP&T and worked very well. After Joe Barr took over TP&T in 2015, the NO BOS stencils were allowed to fade. I used Click Fix several times to remind Mr. Barr that the stencils were fading and ask for relief for pedestrians. When it was clear he was stonewalling me, I gave up. It was clear that city policy is intent on not offending cyclists. When cyclists headed for the Radcliffe quad needed a NB contraflow lane to reach a Mass. Ave. crosswalk, the Mass. Ave. sidewalk cycling ban was lifted between HLS and Wendell St. creating peril for pedestrians waiting for NB buses. The "traffic signs" this complaint says are missing are signs on a few poles thanking cyclists for staying off the sidewalk. The tone of supplication says it all. The city insists that it regards walking as a vitally important form of transportation in Cambridge, but when pedestrians say they feel threatened by scofflaw cyclists, the city puts its fingers in its ears.
