Our current working theory is that there is a tidal influx through the sandy soils surrounding the pipe in the section closest to the seawall, and thus water is entering the pipe through joints and cracks to get around the tide gate. We were already working on more solutions and are taking the following steps:

1. Displaced manhole cover - Parks and Public Works personnel have secured the manhole cover.
2. Cured – in – place pipe lining – upon confirmation from our updated video inspection, we will be retaining a contractor to conduct a cured-in-place lining of the 30” pipe from Parker Pl to the tide gate and possibly the outfall. This process uses a heat-cured plastic liner that lines the existing pipe with a continuous, impermeable liner to prevent infiltration to the pipe.
3. Continuing monitoring – after any measures are implemented, we will continue to monitor the conditions on Concord St and perform additional investigation, analysis, and mitigation as needed.
