This is still an issue, a serious issue. Needs to be addressed. Cars still going through red lights. Dangerous.

Has DPW looked at this issue yet? Seriously, if someone isn't hit in the crosswalk by a car being confused by the lights or cars hitting each other, I will be very surprised. You need to have someone at this light, especially at rush hour, to see the close calls of accidents waiting to happen. This was not an issue at all, until last year when the light cycles were changed.

I was inches from being hit last night from someone running the red light on Main Street heading to melrose, directly in front of the funeral home. Please fix this poorly executed traffic light system.

Yet another car running the red light here while I sat in my car and watched. As CB86 mentions above, it is Main Street heading toward Melrose, at Spadafora Funeral home. When the light turns red, the light at Forest and Main stays green and cars seem to focus on the green and keep going. Please change the cycle of lights or at least acknowledge that you aren't going to do anything and close this ticket. Thanks,

I live near this same intersection and would like to add another request to readjust the timing of these lights. Going north on Main Street the green light at Main and Forest is much more visible than the red light at Main and Winter, I've made the false start myself. A related problem is cars passing on the right when heading north on Main Street just past Forest St, this causes many near collisions and makes it very dangerous to access adjacent driveways.

Last week I was turning left from Winter onto Main, and was almost hit by a car heading North on Main. They stopped at their red light, but when the light at Forest turned green, along with my light to turn, they also went. The light heading north on Main at Forest needs to be one of the ones that is angled downwards that you can't see unless right in front of it.

I was almost hit by a the car from main st last month.

Major accident here today (10/2). Did it have anything to do with the light sequence as reported almost a year ago? Probably. Shameful.

On Main St. but 11:30 AM this passed Saturday, A mid size bus ran in front of me and it ran the red light, of course it almost hits the car from Winter St who has the green and turning left to Main St.

It would be nice if someone from the city could give us an update on this issue instead of ignoring the comments. Even if it's to say "not possible". Just let us know that our request isn't falling on deaf ears. Thank you.

Helloooo? Malden DPW? There are 3 open reports for this issue, one is two years old. Please respond. I almost got creamed AGAIN by someone running the red light at Spadafora heading toward Melrose.

This intersection is a mess!

I think everyone should open a separate ticket on this issue. The city tracks metrics on tickets closed on this hasn'e even been acknowledged, let alone addressed. Open tickets and let's push to get this fixed before someone gets seriously injured.

On other posts like this, the Malden PD has referred issues to the Malden Traffic Commission. Has this intersection been brought to their attention for evaluation? Not only are the traffic light timings dangerous, but long delays on Main and Winter Streets are causing all adjacent side streets to be used as shortcuts, often at high speed and risk to residents.

How do you get it assigned to the traffic commission? When I first posted this in 2014, it was assigned to DPW but never went anywhere from there. I walk to the T every work day, so I see exactly the disaster this intersection is. Not sure why there is no response to this. I hate the thought that it will take an injury for the lights to be switched back to the way the used to be.

Other two cars ran their red when I start to turn left to Main noon yesterday.
Everyone driving from winter St must be careful when making left tune to Main St. even on green.

As Maldonite points out, the surrounding streets are increasingly being used as cutoffs. People come flying down my street, Autumn, throughout rush hour. There are children and elderly in the neighborhood (including my son who is visually impaired), as well as many pedestrians walking to and from the T. To make matters worse, there are no curbs to at least potentially keep an out of control vehicle from mounting the sidewalk. I've been at this address for 17 years, and the problem is getting much worse. Many in the neighborhood have asked for some enhanced enforcement and some infrastructure/safety improvements. But nothing has been done.

I saw another 2 near collisions just in the last week. I don't know what put the first hole in the wall at Spadafora's funeral home, but really it seems like another one could be made at any time before the first repairs are even finished.

Maybe a "no right on red" sign would be beneficial. With all the building that Melrose is doing on our borders, (18 more units going in on Forest St) there's going to be more traffic. I see lights get run on every corner of the city. Another option is more police enforcement. Do it for a month, and people will get the idea. I never speed in Belmont because I've been pulled over a couple time there. If there's no enforcement of the current rules, certain people will just ignore them.

There needs to be enforcement at this intersection. There also needs to be a redesign of the lanes Northbound on Main at the Winter street intersection and Southbound on Main at the Kenmore St. intersection. There either need to be left-turn only lanes installed or the road needs to be narrowed to stop people from cutting around stopped traffic to do crazy things. For some reason, many drivers travelling North on Main street think they can go around stopped vehicles on the right and then go through the red light straight ahead and turn a half block farther on to the turn at Forest street light. Similarly, cars travelling Southbound on Main will go around traffic stopped at the red light to turn right either into the Citizen's bank or onto Winter St. As a driver, it is infuriating. I see it every single day. As a pedestrian, crossing these streets is scary. There is no safe place to cross either Main or Winter at these intersections. You never know where a car is going to come flying at you from.

I live on Tremont and walk to the T every day. For some reason, this week has been particualry bad and I almost got hit in the crosswalk. Coming from Malden, at the intersection of Main and Winter, people seem to notice the light at Forest. When that turns green, that is what they see, versus the red light in front of them.

I don't know why this issue has been ignored. Shameful.
