This would be great, drivers on English Drive are not very respectful of cyclists (in my experience).

I too am disappointed with the slow timeline the city has proposed. Painting sharrows is not that expensive. Perhaps it has been gobbled up by the recession, but I was under the impression that the city had several tens of thousands of dollars available for bicycle improvements this year. You could paint a lot of sharrows for that kind of money.

You're not the only one. There's massive public disappointment with the lack of rapid progress on these sorts of issues.

this is well beyond when the project was proposed to start.

They still havent painted the shared road mark through East Rock. I was struck with an idea on my ride home yesterday, what if they closed one lane for biking/ running/ walking (painted it green so there is no confusion) and turned the other lane into a one way street. A truly bold move would be to have have one of those traffic lights with a red X and green O to control which direction the traffic flows. In the morning Farnam Dr traffic would flow from Hamden to New Haven and in the afternoon it would reverse going from New Haven to Hamden. This would avoid any disruption in rush hour/ commuter traffic while keeping the road safe for everyone else.
