Is there some way we can politely request Saint Joseph Church NOT play their artificial speaker-music of bells playing all the time? I understand if they want to ring their bells (or rather, play the speakers on the tower), on Sunday to call the faithful to mass, but playing 2-3 times per day, for a half hour at a time? We live just a block away, and it is loud enough that even inside our house with the windows closed, we have to raise our voices to be heard. This is absurd!
Why do Churches have the right to blare their music at top volume across the neighborhood? If anyone else blared their music so loud that it could be heard in a six block radius, you can bet the police would show up in short order, and they would be shut down in no time.
I do not wish to listen to their music that they foist on me multiple times per day.
If not, then I'd be interested in finding out how I can get ahold of a license to blare MY music as loud as I like across the entire neighborhood several times a day. In fact, I'll even install a 100ft pole in my backyard and install the massive speakers on top of the pole, to ensure everyone can enjoy my taste in music from Trumbull st to East Rock Park. Led Zepplin, Pink Floyd anyone?

I assume that the bells are rung as part of the canonical hours. I can't imagine that they'd stop ringing the bells entirely, ceasing a very old part of the Christian tradition, because you find it noisy; it's possible they could find a different, shorter recording to use, perhaps, or modulate the volume somewhat. But, regardless, church bells in this tradition are not merely rung on Sundays. People do go to mass there on weekdays, not just on Sundays.
Maybe the thing to do is start the Church of Led Zeppelin or something and offer some competition. Houses of the Holy and all that.

So I fully agree with this.
If they want to play bells (or the recording of bells) I would not be so disturbed, as long as the volume is reasonable (and: given that this is a new recording, they may not be aware that the technician set it louder than the previous one was).
The problem is that this is not a recording of bells! It's the recording of some synth reproduction of bells, organ (with arpeggios and all!), and some other sounds I cannot even recognize.
I am 100% sure that Jesus doesn't like this sound.

From a block or so away, it's a lovely sound. Maybe they should lower the volume, but church bells are part of life. Beats all the sirens.
And yes, "real" bells would be much nicer. But then volume control would be harder - unless you hired only weak-limbed bell-ringers.
