  I concur, this is an ongoing issue which happens dozens of times daily. Can this intersection be sent to the Traffic Commission to review and implement of light timing changes?

  I live right around the corner, go through this intersection daily, and share the concern. It is a frequent source of accidents (that light pole at the end of Forest has been knocked over more times than probably any of us can count) and is very dangerous for pedestrians especially. I don't know if this is something for DPW or for the Traffic Conmision to study.

  Agreed. See this all the time. However, we don’t need to bog this down with a darn study. It’s a glaring safety hazard that needs to be addressed ASAP. Motorists and pedestrians are at risk.

  Traffic is bad everywhere, but people get impatient and run the light, Its pretty easy to see.

  No - this is absolutely not an issue of impatient people intentionally running the light. If you go over there you’ll see there are two consecutive traffic lights and the people stopped in front of the funeral home look past the initial light to the second one, which is often green while the first one is red. They unknowingly continue through the double intersection.

  It is both actually. I see people going north, who for some reason think that they can go through the red light to take a "right on red" onto Forest some 40 yards up the road. I also see people who appear genuinely confused.

  They changed the light cycle over a year ago; we didn’t have an issue before that. At first I thought it was just cause people were used to the old light cycle but it’s been well over a year. The issue is those stopped on Main Street see the second light turn green for those coming up from winter but don’t notice the light infront of the funeral home which is theirs is still red. We’ve done it too. Almost saw another accident walking home yesterday. I have noticed drivers used to the issue coming up from winter will pause and proceed slowely through the intersection when their light turns green.

  I am just curious why was the light cycle changed in the first place? We never had an issue before that.

  Hi Folks, This is Barbara Murphy the Ward 5 Councillor. I agree with you. I will work with the DPW to find a solution. I suspect the change in the cycle of the light could be a result of the many times the light pole on the island has been knocked down by cars (7-8 time in the last 24 months). This intersection is also on the Complete Streets list as an intersection that needs to be looked at for a number of reasons. I'll keep you posted. Happy New Year!

  Barbara, what is the Complete Streets program? How will this affect issues like bad intersections and disintegrating roadways? And what is the timetable for making repairs?

  Complete streets is a program designed to make the roads safer for pedestrians, and bicycles, especially bicycles, with additions of bike lanes and things like that.

  Just saw another car run the light, almost T-boning the other vehicle. What is being done to address this perilous intersection???????
