Description
Tree work needed in the entire park, especially the Marlin Estate side. There was a homeless person living in a tent up there, and the garbage is all still there. Trees in the lawn are falling down rotten. Also, the hedge has been "trimmed" - more like shredded (!) by totally inappropriate equipment. The garbage by the bus stop needs to be picked up.

The hedges that were shredded by totally inappropriate equipment are struggling to come back, and it looks like whoever did that effectively killed many of those shrubs. This is shameful. It makes me wonder how many Parks employees have an arborist license. The way the trees and shrubs are treated is simple: destruction, or total neglect until they are too dangerous. There is no pro-active work done in the Park at Fort Wooster. Trash removal is all done by volunteers.
The Police have said that they were doing surveillance on the tent occupant, but the tent does need to be removed.

Hi Sam,
You reported this issue 6 months ago and the city still has not yet posted a comment. The director of New Haven Parks is Ms. Rebecca Bombero and she is the one who monitors issues reported on this platform. Sometimes, she doesn't notice SeeClickFix tickets. You might want to contact her to give her a heads up about this issue. Her contact information is as follows:
Phone: 203-946-8027 or 203-946-8020
Email: RBombero@newhavenct.gov
I hope this information helps.

Sam,
If there is anyone who can help with this issue, it is Rebecca Bombero. She is the boss of all the people who work in the parks. She is the Director of New Haven Parks. The fact that there have been no posted comments from Ms. Bombero or any other personnel employed with our city indicates nobody knows about this issue other than the people who happened to click on a link directing them to this issue.
In vernacular, this issue has not yet been acknowledged by our city.

There are still some trees with dead limbs next to Townsend Ave. along the lower part of Fort Wooster Park. They have been marked with an "X" so I assume they will be taken down in the months ahead. I cleared some limbs that had fallen onto Townsend Ave., and threw them over the hedge into the park.
Up by the site of the old Marlin estate, there is a small pile of used tires now, and the paved road is getting very overgrown. Some dead trees have fallen on the wires that still run between poles up to the old estate - it looks very bad. Remnants of the tent that was there are still visible.
I picked up a bag full of litter along Townsend again, and will trim the bushes that now obscure the back of the monument to the Indians, if the city does not do it this Spring. The Friends of Ft. Wooster plan to have a spring clean up with volunteer students, at least at the top part of the park.
Also, part of the low retaining wall along Townsend, by the bus stop, broke away into large concrete chunks that were left on the sidewalk by the city when they cleared the sidewalk of snow. I put them by a telephone pole in the right of way - I hope Parks can empty the trash can there by the chained entrance, and take away the concrete, which looks bad.

I have reported a dangerous condtion at the much-neglected play area today, there is an exposed concrete slab directly underneath the zip line, and a member of our party was injured there yesterday. This is an inexcusable hazard.

Lastly, the people mowing are damaging the trees and the marker poles. Those areas need to be weed whacked, I will attach pics. That said, we appreciate the mowing and all the work that Parks is doing - we know you are understaffed. Thank you!

We also need to get our trash can back - it disappeared after the storm, Isaias. It was located by the chain gate on Townsend Ave.

We have a lot of trees down still, and are patiently waiting, even if we cleared all the trees blocking trails by ourselves.
Picked up 2 bags of litter, and the fallen branches along Townsend, that are all mixed in with the bushes now, are pretty unsightly.
Still waitng for a response to the repair request on the retaining wall.

The retaining wall on the sidewalk? Hello? Anyone read this?

Sam, kudos to you for your vigilance in trying to preserve this lovely Park. Please keep trying; I'd suggest contacting the City directly. R Bombero is no longer head of Parks but you can find a contact in the City website directory.
I agree that many parks and open space in the City are neglected. This is *exactly* the reason that I hope the Townsend Estate does not revert to City ownership. I think it has a better chance at preservation if someone ecologically and historically minded purchases it privately and tends to it.

They have yet to decide about the "hedge" that is out of control and overgrown. To the good, the Friends of Fort Wooster have had a successful Greenspace program this summer, and the upper park is looking a lot better. Also to the good, Parks has agreed to mow up there regularly, and has delivered about ten loads of mulch for the reclaiming of the trails.

Hi sam,
This issue was reported almost 4 years ago, but its status is still only "Open" instead of "Acknowledged".
That means this issue has been ignored. When one of our city's officials acknowledges an issue, they change the status from "Open" to "Acknowledged".
Most issues are acknowledged within a few days from the date it was reported. It looks like this one fell through the cracks.
I hope this information helps.

Hi Sam,
Your reported issue hasn't been intentionally neglected. It simply was a case of bad timing. Every once in a while, that happens.
When a reported issue is not "Acknowledged" within several days from the date it was reported, it usually remains unacknowledged forever.
You should open a new issue and reference this issue which is https://seeclickfix.com/issues/4366738-parks-request
If you need any help accomplishing this task, please let me know.
I hope this information helps.
