There are a growing number of these carts on Webster Street. How does the City of Alameda plan to address this? Or will the City simply not address it? I really hope that it does not end up like the abandoned newsracks that litter Webster Street for years. Who would want to open a business here?
It seems like a little bit of trash turns into a lot very quickly. Any time junk like this starts to build up, the area around that corner starts to get very sketchy.
The nearby green city trash receptacle is also overflowing. The area needs to be cleaned on a daily basis, including the bus shelters. Walking by here several days a week for over a decade, the situation has grown increasingly worse. Reporting single events is not enough. The area needs to be looked at and addressed as a whole.
I reported earlier in the day that there are two carts filled with trash at the SE corner of Webster and Eagle.
https://seeclickfix.com/issues/5304286-illegal-dumping-of-garbage https://seeclickfix.com/issues/5304273-graffiti-public-property It is awful walking through this area. I look forward to the day when I no longer need to. It feels like the City long ago wrote it off.

Thank you for reporting illegal dumping. Public Works staff has received confirmation that the dumped material has been removed and we are now closing this issue.
There is a growing trash problem on and near Webster Street. The dumping, of all sorts, is taking place on a daily basis. The City, or its agents, need to pick it up daily. It is really dragging the neighborhood down. It makes the area seem both unsafe and undesirable. Who would want to open or keep a business here? Who would want to shop here? Those dumping illegally need to be fined. Until the risks of dumping outweigh the benefits of dumping, the problem will only worsen. If I did not live here, I would not shop here.
Could you please bump this up to your supervisor?

Who do we contact and how do we contact those responsible when our repeated requests fall through the cracks? Who is the manager responsible for those cracks?
Gerstle, I’m wondering about that too. I don’t expect anyone to leap out of bed to race over and clean up a trash pile, but after three weeks you have to think maybe it’s not going to happen. I’d love to know whom to (politely, civilly) remind.

This morning Public Works staff received approval from the Police Department to remove these materials. Removal will occur in the next 24 hours and we will field verify the removal before closing this case.
Public Works staff is executing the required Municipal Code abatement process to remedy the condition of the newsracks. An update to the newsrack cases will follow in the next week or so as we progress towards seizure of units that have not been repaired.
I field verified today that the two carts at 700 Eagle (case 5304286) have been removed.
Our maintenance contractor will remove the graffiti reported in case 5304273.

It was there this morning as seen in photo taken across the street from 7-11 and by the BV side of Elders Inn. Perhaps the City can use some of the homeless funds to set up secure storage facilities?
