It sounded like it was on Erie Street, each occurrence progressing from Magazine to Pearl. And then a few minutes later more were heard at some distance away. As Mr. Winters suggests, this has happened repeatedly. I can't attest to "nightly" - perhaps I sleep too soundly.
According to my notes, this has been happening every night since 5/25, except I didn't hear any on 5/30. Last night I heard fireworks at 10:23 pm, 11:06 pm, 11:09 pm, 11:41 pm, 1:17 am, 1:23 am, 1:38 am, and 1:46 am.
Seems to be happening in multiple locations, based on the different reports I've seen. In my case, I live in The Port, and they usually sound like they're coming from the middle of the Newtowne Court housing development, and I've definitely seen them in the sky over there a few times. Sometimes they sounds like they're coming from the Clement Morgan Park area but I've yet to confirm that. Other reports have said they're coming from Greene-Rose Heritage Park or a parking lot adjacent to it.
These are probably unrelated to the fireworks reported here on Erie Street, but I wanted to share what I knew since it's clearly been an ongoing problem.
It is illegal for private citizens to use, possess, or sell fireworks in Massachusetts, or to purchase them legally elsewhere and then transport them into the state. The law prohibits any article designed to produce a visible or audible effect. The penalty can be a fine or imprisonment or both, and confiscation. Thus far, we have confiscated a number of fireworks and did make an arrest, in which a Boston resident faces multiple firearms charges as well as unlawful possession of fireworks.
We are directing available patrols to locations at the times in which we are receiving calls and reports from the likes of SeeClickFix, as well as where/when Officers have witnessed fireworks. To clarify, we have not had any recent gunshot-related incidents in the area. If anyone has any specific information on who may be responsible for using fireworks, please call 617-349-3300 or text an anonymous tip to the Cambridge Police, by sending a text message to Tip411 (847411). Begin your message with Tip650 and then type your message.
