There are just as many (or more!) of us who sympathize with that sign as those who object. How racist and tone deaf and tacky to insist that our city workers, who are mostly Black or people of color, attend to your aesthetics. To the City: Please leave the sigh!

I'd like an explanation of the City's reply: "City of Cambridge assigned this issue to Water - VF (Fresh Pond) 07/05/2020."

On what basis would the City of Cambridge, in this time and context, do anything but ignore such a request? People observe a solemn ritual by that sign, kneeling nightly in view of passing traffic for 8 minutes and 46 seconds.

I'd thought the City was making efforts to open its eyes, but maybe that hasn't yet moved beyond the stage of lip service?

If I may kindly offer another point of view. For a moment, ignore the message on the sign. Simply know that people cannot post signs at fresh pond. When they do, the signs are removed immediately. That has always been the case (feel free to confirm with the water department). The sign that is referenced in the post should be removed and placed on personal property. Bring signs nightly for the vigil. I believe this was suggested and what a great idea it is.
As for the message itself, some may consider it a political statement. You may not agree but just remember it is a privilege to disagree. Just for the record, I stand against racism, police brutality and many other important causes. I just make sure to post them on my property.
