I agree that some form of traffic calming is needed at this location. I actually work in traffic planning/engineering and happen to also live at 416 Lighthouse. Same thing happens along the Seawall curve. People driving too fast for road conditions. A number of the barrier posts are askew as the result of several out of control cars. I am supportive of any effort to slow down traffic in the Cove. Good luck.

The entire East Shore, including the Heights, is a speeder's dream - no traffic enforcement, few speed bumps, and big, wide rds. I agree that more needs to be done.

A focal point is to include feedback and ideas for street improvements from members of the community. You will also find previously submitted project requests from other community members. Hello, the Engineering Department comment was in response to your January 10th comment that Alderman DeCola was going to resubmit a new request. That was simply to provide the community with all the details of the program.

We did look into the mentioned earlier applications at the end of the day. Currently the application is listed as "under review". This means that traffic data has already been collected, and a determination of the feasibility, potential costs, and priority needs to take place.

This determination is not made by the Engineering Department, but rather a resource steering committee lead by two Aldermans. The Board of Aldermans are currently in the process of selecting who will sit on that committee. This supposed to happen at the end of this month, and the first committee meeting is tentatively planned for sometime in February.

As aldermen are resubmitting new requests, providing the community with details, and reviewing applications, feasibility, costs and priorities being reviewed, steering committees being formed and months passing, A CAR FLIPPED OVER and another side swiped a telephone pole, both took down electrical lines and one took down the grounding contact cable which is about an inch thick (and has not been reconnected) and he did this while skidding across a pedestrian sidewalk, across our yard and hitting the fence on the opposite side of the yard where our neighbor has installed his own telephone pole sections in the ground to prevent cars sliding across our yard from hitting his house! WHO is going to decide the priority level of this proposal and who has to get seriously injured or killed before this decision is made?

I also had made a complaint about the cars and how fast they were driving around the bend in 2010 to the town. I requested a mirror or stop sign which I was told would be looked into and nothing ever happened. I explained to them that we just bought the house with a child, and I had lots of anxiety with the speed that people turn that corner. Hopefully something can be done. Another concern I have is that if there are all of these robberies occurring in Morris cove. A few months back when we had those two men driving like psychos in the neighborhood at 330 am I called 911 and it took the police a longggg time to get here. This is disturbing if a house around here gets invaded. I'm going to call the police department and discuss this. Sorry for blabbing!! -- karen

Will we know when the meeting at the end of the month will take place for the street calming on lighthouse and Marion? Everyday for three years when I pull out of my driveway I am in fear of being slammed into as the cars coming around the corner cannot see that my driveway is just beyond the bend. There really needs to be a stop sign. I feel a yield or anything like that is not going to work. I don't think a stop sign is too much to ask. Please let me know when there will be a meeting concerning this issue that has bothered me for years now. Thank you- Karen

I think an all-way stop at this location could work, and would probably be the quickest and least expensive change to get in place. Please let us know if there is a meeting about this issue.

It shouldn't take another new committee and another lengthy process to correct what is known to be such a severe hazard. Please fix the situation immediately. It's not rocket science.

This is what I heard from the City's Engineering Dept:
Currently there are no scheduled meetings for the Resource Allocation Committee (Complete Streets Committee). The Chief Administrative Officer is in charge of the committee (see description below). Jennifer Pugh is currently the Acting Chief Administrative Officer and may have more insight then I do as to the committee's standing. Please feel free to contact her directly at 203-946-7903.

Resource Allocation Committee
This committee was created in 2013 in response to concerns by the Board of Aldermen about the prioritization of street and sidewalk improvements. The committee includes the CAO, City Engineer and two members of the Board of Aldermen. It meets as needed to review requests for street and sidewalk work measured against condition information and available resources. The Committee must develop and approve the priority work list before handing it off to DPW and Engineering for implementation. Once the list is developed the Committee meets as needed to make any adjustments.

Doug Hausladen, the new director of transportation, traffic and parking will be at the East Shore Management Team TONIGHT! (Tuesday, February 11 at 7 p.m.) at the Fire Station on Townsend & Lighthouse, 2nd Floor. If you can, please come down & we can all talk about this issue.

Update: The City has a Resource Allocation Committee - Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Engineer and 2 Alders (Alphonse Paolillo and Frank Douglass) - that was created by Ordinance to prioritize sidewalk, paving and tree work citywide. The CAOs office is working now to compile information for the Committee's review. The new CAO just sent a communication to the Alders as required by Ordinance asking for their priorities. Meanwhile Dept of Public Works and Engineering are compiling information about sidewalk and paving work on last year's approved list that was not finished due to funding constraints and pulling information from SeeClickFix requests.

The committee will meet once the budget is adopted and they know the funding for the year. Doug Hausladen, (Director of Transportation, Traffic and Parking) is taking the lead on review of the Complete Streets applications that have been filed. (Like this issue has been filed.) He will be providing input to the Resource Allocation Committee on these projects and how they may tie in to the setting of sidewalk and paving priorities.

Please call your Alders so this issue is included as a priority recommendation!

4 cars brake & pause while SUV swerves & slides sideways down Lighthouse Rd. No injuries. No problem?

Older gray car with red left quarter panel & hood spinning repeatedly in Lighthouse intersection. Near accident with car coming around the corner, beeping horn. Couldn't get license plate or pic.

Around 10 a.m. this morning, a private company snow plow and a small car collided, leaving debris on the street. Happened while the city plows were still out. Here's another traffic accident at the corner of Lighthouse & Marion Streets that won't become part of the Complete Streets narrative because no one (again) called the police. Neighbors pulled the car bits off the road.

I have to add that Concord is a big part of the raceway. Big big problem. The buses are setting the speed limit and its not good. Someone is going to get hurt.

How do we add to the Complete Streets narrative?

The motorcyclist could have easily been killed when he skidded off the road last night at Lighthouse and Marion, precisely where we've been pleasing for traffic calming measures. He seemed okay and walked away from the accident leaving his bike there until the next day. As of 9 a.m. it is still there. The skid mark shows his direction was straight for our yard where we are now afraid to do any gardening since traffic often travels at a high rate of speed around this bend. The motorcyclist called it "a deadly curve."

How do you add to the traffic calming recommedations

I'm not entirely sure. I do understand that the City has this intersection on its list to address. The City Engineer's office is reviewing it. The Resource Allocation Committee has the final say of what measures to implement when. I'm not sure when the Resource Allocation Committee is meeting next.

Sal, when s the Resource Allocation Committee meeting next? Will you be representing us?

I sketched up some concepts that could help with traffic calming at this intersection. I'm going to scan them and send them to the city in the next few days as addendum to the complete streets application already submitted. Does anyone know who I should specifically contact at the city?

Thank you for prompting more thought in this issue. While the situation is improved, it has not been ‘fixed’. The one radar speed display feedback sign has seemingly helped to slow traffic headed northeast-bound towards Townsend, nothing has been done to slow traffic headed in the other direction southwest-bound towards Lighthouse Park. At a minimum, a second radar speed display sign should be installed somewhere on Lighthouse Road near Anthony’s/Cove Street aimed at slowing vehicles as they go around the curve near Marion side street. This is a blind curve as there as multiple houses with children and a Park after they curve.

Moreover, this issue of speeding has a lot to do with the wide width of Lighthouse Road in this section. Further improvements should be done to narrow the vehicle travel lanes for the entire length of Lighthouse Road. Speed humps, roundabout(s) and other traffic calming devices should also be considered. This area is not throughway.
