Excessive speeds and reckless driving on Lewis Farm Road is a real problem and it's escalating. This is not only an ongoing and legitimate concern for parents, but a also a danger and worry to everyone who lives in the area.
My hard data is being run off the road by a distracted and speeding driver while on a run. Hard data is pulling 3 young children to safety who were standing not on the road but on the curb when a distracted speeding driver ran off the road and jumped the curb where they had just been standing. Hard data is that this section of Lewis Farm Road is being used as a source of stupid and dangerous entertainment for teenagers at night. These are not isolated incidences but all too common occurrences that are witnessed and experienced on a daily basis. We don't need the city spending money on a study when the hard data is so obviously clear. I'll take the inconvenience of a couple added 4 way stops any day, especially if I know it may save a life.

The speed on Lewis Farm Road is excessive and people walking and running with their families in the neighborhood are going to get seriously injured. I do believe something must be done, and stop signs are a good start to save lives. Ridiculous and reckless if nothing is done.

I have lived near this intersection for 26 years and I have seen a increase in cars speeding, especially those driven by teen drivers. I was walking my dogs and was halfway across the road and a teen in an SUV crested the hill going at least 40 mph and he did not even slow down. Fortunately, I got myself and my dogs across in time. Cars have more horsepower than they used to and some of these SUVs are massive. I do not want anyone or anything to get injured or killed by teens thinking they are invincible. We have the objective data and we do not need a study. I agree that I would gladly be inconvenienced bymultiple stop signs in this neighborhood to keep people safe.

Both Lewis Farm and Churchill are open drag strips between Dixie and Brooks. Something needs to be done along both streets. Four way stops/speed bumps or both. No hard data is needed, simple observation will clear any doubt. It’s dangerous! Non-residents use both roads to avoid Wade Ave.

Agree with first post. Respectfully, I doubt you are qualified to evaluate roadway designs. It seems there are some bad offenders. Later commenting experts have narrowed the culprit to horsepower and the youths. Enforcement can fix this issue. No need to install speed bumps or other annoying traffic impedeing measures. We had a problem with people blowing the stop sign at our intersection. 2 weeks of RPD camping at the intersection pulling people fixed it.

wd43stp123 Respectfully speaking, most in the neighborhood would likely agree the problem of speeding and reckless driving is indiscriminate of age and make and model (horsepower) of the vehicle. To say that we are pin pointing or narrowing down to that degree would be an incorrect assertion and very far from the mark.
Our pleas for help on this issue are simply based on years of peoples first hand encounters and life threatening experiences involving reckless distracted driving at high speeds that occurs on a daily basis. And it doesn't take a qualified expert to evaluate roadway designs to see where the problem lies.
In a perfect world it would be great to have RPD camping out for 2 weeks at a time to remedy the problem. But unfortunately perfection comes with a cost and realistically resources are just not there.
So unlike you we welcome with open arms, additional stop signs, speed bumps and any other annoying traffic impeding measures.

I'm not the one that narrowed it down to those suspects. It was one of your fellow neighbors. I can assure you it's a lot easier to get the police out there then get the city working on designing and installing speed bumps. You should look into this issue on the internet and see how it impacts emergency response vehicle times and property values. Plenty of local news on it. Food for thought. There's a long list of people that have already started working on getting speed bumps put in their neighborhood so good luck. Try contacting the officer in charge of your beat. Give him specific examples of people and they will be on the lookout.

wd43stp123: My comment about cars and horsepower was directed back to an earlier post about stop signs due to teenagers flying in SUVs and to the current situation. In the past 5 years, cut through traffic in our neighborhood has increased dramatically (all ages and models of cars). We need 4 way stop signs on Lewis Farm and Churchill. I saw a car blow through a stop sign on Lewis Farm while I was walking my dogs. It could have been a child on a bike or scooter instead of an adult. I have been in the neighborhood for over 26 years and I can attest to it having become dangerous due to the drivers that speed over the hilly roads and ignore speed limit and stop signs.

Contact the Police. That is the appropriate City resource to address this issue. Fastest, and best use of your tax dollars. Far more Police ready to be dispatched to your area than City Engineers. I know of another intersection in the neighborhood where police were deployed and over a week or so they made dozens of stops. I believe it was effective.Most of the offenders are people who live somewhere in your neighborhood. People aren't cutting through on their way from Garner to north Raleigh.

This is an on going safety issue that seems to be getting worse every day. So many people on foot use Lewis Farm to make their way down to the park. Especially now with all the construction vehicles lining both sides of the street, which makes visibility next to impossible for people to safely navigate. Not to mention the multitude of lawn care company trucks which are in full swing from now until the fall.
Four way stops are desperately needed and would help to slow the speed of traffic down.
On nearby Dixie Trail (that borders 2 school zones) the continued police presence hasn't curbed people driving dangerously at excessive speeds, which I see on a daily basis.

Excessive speeding in this area is definitely a problem, as many residents in the area will attest and as data will surely corroborate.

What is your qualification to assert that stop signs are needed? Report this to the police. Then data will be gathered by way of citation records. Four way stops are a nuisance. The North Ridge Country Club area installed numerous after pressure from the neighbors with feelings following an accident in the neighborhood which likely would have still occurred had the signs been installed.

I've come close to being hit by a cars traveling at high speeds more times than I can count. I've witnessed a distracted driver in a speeding car jumping the curb barely missing my young daughter and her friends. I see couples with strollers, joggers and people walking their dogs having to scramble to safety on a daily basis. The presence of police is only helpful during the short time they are here, we've been there done that. We need a long term solution and shouldn't have to wait for a serious tragedy to be a qualifying factor.

Respectfully if you are not a traffic engineering professional you are not qualified to assess where four way stops are required. The police option is the correct action to take.

I don't disagree that people probably speed on that road. I'm just telling you you need to call the police. This thing is been going on for quite some time and nothing is getting accomplished through this forum hence the reason I'm closing it
