  The goal of traffic calming on this street is great - all of Fruitvale Ave needs it badly - but the way to do it is to add curb protected bike lanes the entire length in both directions, narrow the street, add bulb outs, lighting and signals at crosswalks. This will remove some parking spots from the street but it has to happen. These little center signs aren't going to do it.

  Leave the signs the way they are. Pedestrian safety measures is way overdue in this corridor and there have been too many pedestrian auto collisions.

  Thanks for reporting this. Fruitvale desperately needs safety improvements for people biking and walking, but I agree that placing blocks around the center line that create a pinch point between bike and bus/car traffic isn’t a great way to achieve that. If the signs are getting run over & knocked down anyway then clearly they’re not effective. The city needs to reevaluate these locations and come up with a better solution that works, slows car traffic to safer speeds, and doesn’t just trade the safety of one road user for another.

  Fruitvale Ave as well most of the larger Aves and Blvds are becoming race tracks. The city and OPD have almost no traffic enforcement in place and it shows. Its very dangerous out there.
