Last year i called the number of the real estate or leasing agency and told them they had squatters and they had yard sales and a moving truck parked in the side walk they acted like they didn’t care!! This place is a hot mess, not the only one but geez everyone sees it on the main street

Thank you for posting this, this is a menace to our city and needs to be torn down before a fire get started here.

Perhaps another candidate for burning down and the gas station across the street from its out of business and abandon, that’s not helping the area.

Mismanagement at its best, give the VPD a fancy new building on the waterfront but nothing for those with nothing.

How about we make sure we have an adequate homeless shelter in Solano County before we worry about a new police station, unless we intend on using the old building as a shelter once the police department moves out.

Dee j, i completely agree!!!!!!!! This new city manager is going to drive Vallejo into bankruptcy again. 13 plus million for the building and another "20 million" to retrofit it! The town is falling apart, but we have new street lights on sonoma boulevard, a new pipeline going across the napa river, and other ideas and projects that dont make this city any better in the long run!

It would make much more sense to have a police station in the middle of our population or near where the crimes are most an issue, not the edge. Does seem misguided. I think the new pipeline is needed as there are lots of old infrastructure that is near the end of it's useful life and this is allegedly one of them.

“New” City Manager? Been over a year since he was hired. Same tired old pamphlets and brochures at the reception desk touting a vibrant bustling Vallejo from 3 years ago. I don’t see that he has brought anything new to this town.

As much as I like Vallejo, we must state the truth, there is. I thing vibrant or bustling about Vallejo.

Watching Out is correct. Theres minimal crime on the waterfront. The VPD should be located in a high crime area. Or in the heart of town since we're required to come in to report most crimes.

Nice prediction. Seems like Vallejo PD and FD should be hiring someone like you to help them predict and prevent people breaking into empty buildings and setting fire to them. Obviously they don't haver the ability (interest?) to do that themselves.

These property owners probably fair better collecting from their insurance company.

Vallejo went bankrupt because chronic, systemic financial mismanagement struggling to accomodate "public safety" union extortion. We learned nothing from that experience and are now driving full speed toward a repeat. The road to the new police waterfront Summer police will be over crumbling streets, lined with derelict mobile homes, and burned out businesses!

I guess the only ones in Vallejo that will have anything nice will be our fine police department which has a questionable history.

Yeah, I have question and a suggestion: That ugly, Flintstonehenge, State Farm building standing empty is at real risk of being entered and vandalized by the transients who freely hang out along the waterfront. A fire there could also harm nearby senior citizen accommodation and residents. Why doesn't the city pre-emptively knock it down and turn it back into the lovely park it used to be?

The article stated that the building "once housed State Farm" so they've already relocated. I'm uncertain if other businesses rented iffice space there.

Yes, and didn't State Farm, at the time they moved here from their barely finished Fairfield building, confirm that their business model actually was to buy cheap, build cheap, occupy short-term, sell high, and move on. So that building was always fated to be ugly, empty, and totally out of character with our beautiful waterfront, and its historic, Victorian neighbors. My suggestion stands.

Buildings like this one that burned should be demolished before this has a chance to happen. Squatters need to be removed promptly and property secured. We cannot allow these homeless folks to take over vacant properties.

The bldg on Sonoma where people saw homeless living in is now totally burned down. It happened a couple of days ago and now simply needs to be cleaned up as it's now a huge bundle of burned up wood etc. Leaving our empty bldgs for such a long time is inviting homeless to moved in and eventually some will burn to the ground. Two major fires from homeless living in them is two too many so I think the City Officials (?) should do something about the empty bldgs and make the owners or previous owners do something with them. The city is just as responsible as anyone else is.
