I was recently shown a home for rental but when I showed up to move in I was given a different apartment than the one that I was shown previously and told that I had to take this one so now me and my family are in this apartment and there are multiple problems. I have everything from broken and leaky Windows to Old piping for my furnace, no fire detectors or carbon monoxide detectors in any room, my doors some of them don't secure the lock or fit into the framing properly to keep air or heat into my home. A lot of my electrical outlets are missing some of them need repair, my son's bedroom is without a light because somebody took the ceiling fixture off and never replaced it. my front doors do not lock properly, I have a lot of broken door knobs and locks, my windows are not properly secure I'm getting a lot of air leaking in here and I have a wife with breast cancer and a daughter with sickle cell. not to mention other problems that I'm sure you guys would notice better than I if you were to do an inspection

Wow. This sounds serious. You should contact our city's LCI (Livable City Initiative). They're the folks who provide mediation between tenants and landlords. Their front desk phone number is 203-946-7090. Their office hours are Monday through Friday 9:00am to 5:00pm.
The LCI neighborhood specialist for your neighborhood (The Hill) is Arthur Natalino. His desk phone number is 203-946-2333. His work email is anatalino@newhavenct.gov
When you speak with LCI, they will ask you if you've already informed the landlord about the deficiencies in your apartment, so it would behoove you to contact the landlord first, if you have their contact information.
Please rest assured, LCI will help you. They are very proactive assisting all tenants in our city.
I hope this information helps.
