We are working with NCDOT on this one...weather this time of year makes it difficult to predict when this will be completed but everyone is working hard to make it ASAP.

Weather is a reasonable reason for the delay, but what the contractor should do is lay a paper strip and place hand-packed asphalt ramps to smooth the bumps. They are very severe.

Our standard for the contractor states that if the drop-offs are greater than 2 inches they are required to place temporary ramps. In this case the drop-offs are less than 2 inches, and at the 35 mph speed the contractor is not required to take that action.

But...while the 2 inches may be standard for a dropoff - this is one of the more severe ones I've ever experienced, especially coming back up - and with the thousands of cars daily...it's causing significant - and needless - backups and delays - even before they do the lane closures. That being said - it would be nice - since it's been over a week and a half - if they put adjusted - or better yet - if they worked evenings and weekends....weather has been pretty good so far - no freezing..and little rain. Thanks.

BTW...the crosswalks and new sidewalks are simply great - it's a great improvement..especially the crosswalks...so thanks for getting done

I will pass this on to our contractor. I am sure there would be cost implications to working after hours, but our Public Works staff will do whatever they can to move this one along. Glad you like the sidewalks / crosswalks!

This situation has gotten a little rediculous. They ripped up the pavement over a week ago and seem to have done nothing since then. On the way to work this morning there wasn't even any equipment out there to finish the job. It's as if they simply tore it up and abandoned the project. It is causing major delays in the morning and evening commute. It's such a small area it should not take this long to fix whatever they are doing there.

Paving is scheduled to begin on Thursday and will likely extend into Friday. In the time since the milling work was done last week, crews poured the concrete islands last Thursday and Friday, and added the traffic control loops on Monday. Work was delayed this week because of the forecast for rain on Tuesday.
